Pocket Magnifiers can be very useful in the kitchen, out shopping or in a restaurant.  They are lightweight, easy to use and range in magnification from 2x to 14x.  They can come with or without LED illumination. 

Disadvantages of pocket magnifiers are that the higher power versions tend to have a narrow field of view and a short working distance.
